Electric tricycle frames are mainly made of high carbon steel, aluminium alloy, stainless steel and galvanised carbon steel sheets. High carbon steel is often used in the manufacture of electric tricycles due to its robustness and durability. For example, Phoenix electric tricycles use high-carbon steel frames to ensure the stability and durability of the vehicle.
In contrast, aluminium alloy frames are known for their lightness and sturdiness, as well as their excellent resistance to corrosion and rust. In addition, stainless steel frames, such as Jinpeng’s new Jinfeng, are naturally non-corrosive and resistant to aging, and require no baking to remain environmentally friendly, while the lightweight design of the bodywork helps to save on power consumption.

Galvanised carbon steel frames, on the other hand, excel in robustness and durability through the one-piece stamping and forming process and electrophoretic baking paint technology. For example, Changli’s King Load Tricycle uses galvanised carbon steel as the frame material.
Which material is stronger? This is a judgement call based on actual usage and needs. Aluminium alloy and stainless steel would be ideal if you are concerned about rust prevention and light weight, while high carbon steel and galvanised carbon steel plate would be more suitable if you often need to carry heavy loads and are looking for durability.
When selecting an electric tricycle, if you can’t identify the thickness of the steel with your naked eye, try knocking on the frame to determine the material and thickness based on the sound. Usually, the frame of branded vehicles is more finely crafted, and the one-piece moulding of the frame also makes the whole vehicle more sturdy.
Of course, in addition to the frame material, other configurations such as the brake system and shock absorbers are equally important, and together they determine the overall performance and safety of the electric tricycle. When purchasing, make sure to consider these factors comprehensively.
